What I did with my day off

Here's some pieces I made while messing around with the rough diamonds. I was experimenting with different ways of setting them, since they did change color in the kiln. The bezel is the easiest to work with I think, and the best part was when I realized that I didn't have to wait and order some tomorrow, I could just make my own! Metal clay is fun that way. Back to my regularly scheduled work now.

World's Largest Underpants

I did the art and craft show at the Alma Highland Festival this weekend. My dad, age 87, was the oldest veteran marching in the parade. You rock, Dad! It was very hot but there was a great crowd and I did almost double what I did last year which was very encouraging. I hope the rest of the summer follows the same trend for all of us. My next door neighbor was Crystal Wilson, a talented tie-dye artist. I'm old enough to remember doing tie-dye back in the sixties but Crystal has taken tie-dye to a whole new level. The most fun I had all weekend was hearing people's reactions to her size 100 tie-dyed underpants. If you can't live without a pair of these giant undies, you can contact Crystal at (989) 875-6175.

Rough diamonds

I've been seeing rough or raw diamonds more and more lately, so I thought I'd get some and play around a bit. I was mistakenly shipped a largish packet of small stones and the vendor told me to just keep them, so I have a bunch to experiment with. I put them in little balls of PMC3 and fired at 1110 for 30 minutes (and went out for Ethiopian food in the meantime). They survived the firing, but did darken. Which is fine for the ones that were already dark, not so good for the orange and yellow ones. I have plenty of other options for setting them though, so I'll continue to experiment. What I will eventually do with them I have no idea! That's part of the fun though.

Picante

Magdalena loved to dance. All it took was the hint of music and her feet started twitching; even sitting at her desk her feet beat out the rhythm of a hundred songs a day.

She found music in everything; her graceful hands swept through the air like songbirds as she spoke; her hips and shoulders keeping time as she walked.

"Magda, Magda," her mother lamented; "¡tan picante!, that one."

She was too hot; she was too spicy for her mother's comfort. There was nothing she could do about it; Magdalena was born to dance.

Week 22-Pink Opal and Tourmaline Earrings

These I'm pretty happy with even if I don't wear pink. I still think it's a beautiful, feminine color. The drops are some large pink opals that I got when Rodene and I road tripped to Munro's last week. I added rose quartz, moonstone, pink tourmaline and some creamy gold keishi pearls (also from Munro's). I like the way the coiled earwires turned out and they're closed at the top so nothing can work it's way off. I'm caught up for now. I'm leaving tomorrow for Alma and the Highland Festival. My whole family will be there for the weekend so I should have lots of help at the art fair even if I don't get to see any of the festival. Wishing everyone a safe and great holiday weekend.

Week 21-Garnet Bracelet

This is another piece that I'm not too sure about. The clasp began life as a failed earring compoment and ended up in my spare parts box. The string of garnet beads definately needed something ornate with it so I pulled out the earring and turned it into a clasp. I like the idea but I'm not sure I like the shape.

SATC2 Premieres in London with Hair Extensions, Hats and an Homage

It's baaaaaccck.

Staying true to her SATC London premiere look from 2008, Sarah Jessica Parker wowed the Brits with yet another Alexander McQueen frock topped with a stunner of a Philip Treacy, ummm, hat I suppose you would call it.

While the look she sported in 2008 fell on the wrong side of 'ridiculous' in my opinion, this choice I have to admit is wonderfully whimsical. Perhaps because it's paired with her diamond-studded arm-band homage to the deceased Alexander McQueen, whose untimely death will surely cause a vacuum of envelope pushing in the fashion world (he is the designer responsible for everything Lady Gaga wears to wow these days).

The other leading ladies - probably used to being upstaged at this juncture - didn't disappoint with a stunning Kristin Davis in vintage Norman Norell from Decades and simple diamond studs:

Kim Katrall in vintage Thierry Mugler accessorized with a great Fred Leighton brooch at the waist and that classic Hollywood hair she seems to love of late.

And Cynthia Nixon in teal Narciso Rodriguez with gorgeous vintage diamond teardrop earrings that are hidden by those unfortunate hair extensions (ladies, you're not fooling anyone).

So I'm dying to know if you agree with me. Do you love or hate the SJP hat choice? What do you think of the other looks? Again, Kristin Davis does not disappoint, but I have to give this one to the scene stealer. Thoughts?

unnatural desires.

ruth marten is part surrealism and part femme wit. her work reminds me primarily of max ernst, whose collage work i worship over here in the house of doom & gloom. her work is strange and inviting, curiously luring you in for a closer peek, daring you to come away from it unscathed.

3 DSK Everything Bracelets (Sold Out)

The last 3 fully charmed DSK Everything Bracelets for a while.
Only in Michigan (or vacation) do I really have the free time, and energy to make charm bracelets. But vacations always end. I tend stress out a lot in Seattle when it comes to administration work for the company & stress out over other life related responsibilities. Lame!

My advice to you is to live at your parents house for as long as you can if you don't have any problems living at home. Having your own place is kind of a big financial pain especially if it's far away from family and have just started a new job. Bills...renters' insurance, renting a parking space if you live downtown...pet rent! And on top of that you gotta feed yourself. I really miss living at home, and having my mom cook for me multiple times a day. It's the world's greatest luxury! But then again experiencing independence is also wonderful ..but definitely not free! Freedom comes with a price lol, it's called rent and utilities!

I'm going to be working on some more dainty pieces this weekend, and then it's back to Seattle where I'll finish up your pending necklace, and earring orders. I hope you've liked my posts from Michigan.
They're always a little bit different from my Seattle posts. : )

I have new style .925 Sterling Silver Necklaces coming soon.
20"-24" Necklaces, Imported. Made in Italy. :D
Thank you for your patience!

This is a random question for a jewelry blog, but I know I can get some great feedback.

My question, what do you like in your salads?
Spinach? Tomatoes? Cherry Tomatoes?

What are the best/ your favorite combos?
Do you have any delicious dressing recipe?
If you could leave your comments in the comment section that would be peachy.

Let me know what you like to eat! I'm started to create my own salads for lunch. : )

My little sister named this, it was her first reaction when I showed her.
She says it's a great name. I mean..I can see where she's coming from, the soft pinks.

I'm thinking about watching Friends all over again, who's with me?!
I loved watching Friends during high school, that show made life so much better.
I wish they would make more sitcoms on television.

A new take on the Everything Bracelets with a little bit of space.
One of each available, enjoy!
